The most prominent events in the history of Russia happened in Uglich. Prince Dmitry, the son of Ivan the Terrible, died here in the end of the 16th century. After his death, the Ryuriks were replaced by the Romanov family, who originally came to this ancient town. During the Uglich city tour you will visit many sites of ancient history and architecture, among which are the Kremlin, Church of St. Dmitry-on-Blood, and the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior.
Visit to Monastery of St. Cyril on the White Lake, museum of icons. Goritsy is a village known for Europe's largest Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. The monastery was founded in 1397 by St. Kirill who abandoned his secular life to become closer to God.
The village of Goritsy itself is populated by just 600 people who live in traditional painted wooden dwellings and continue to make a living through fishing and farming today. Walking around the peaceful back roads of the village you can see beautiful houses decorated with intricate wooden carvings.
Open-air museums in Russia, a unique historical, cultural and natural complex. Kizhi Pogost is an architectural museum containing numerous structures including several churches, a number of log houses, windmills, chapels, saunas, and other buildings. The most important single structure is the wooden Transfiguration Church with its 22 domes. Its walls are built of pine logs and the shingles on the roof are aspen. It was built in 1714 and is one of the tallest log structures in the world. UNESCO has designated Kizhi as a World Heritage Site.

The village was completely destroyed during WWII. In 1996 it was recreated to present the traditions and crafts of Old Russia. Here you can find several masterpieces of wooden architecture.
