Morning city tour of Tallinn, visiting the Old Town of Tallinn - an example of Gothic architecture in the Baltic and Nordic countries. The tour includes Toompea Castle fortifications, the Dome Church (13th century), the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky (19th century), Town Hall Square (15th century), the Old Guild, and St. Olaf’s Church. Afternoon excursion to Kadriorg Park and visit to Kadriorg Palace. In the evening Estonian cuisine dinner at a local restaurant is included. Overnight in Tallinn (B, D).
Morning departure from Tallinn to Riga with a stop in Sigulda- often called the Latvian Switzerland - located about 50 km from Riga on the Gauja River valley, in the Gauja National Park and known as the most popular tourist and leisure destination. Experience a genuine whiff of the middle Ages, a time of romantic legends, castles and heroic figures, visiting the ruins of the 13th century Crusader Castle, and the 19th century’s Kropotkin’s Palace in the outskirts of Sigulda. A short drive down into the river valley, enjoying the landscape and the walk to the 13th century Turaida Castle. A chance to view ‘the garden of Gods’ from the 30-meter high fortification tower and visit the local history museum. A further drive to Riga. Arrival and hotel check-in. Overnight in Riga (B)
Morning city tour of Riga. A combined coach and walking tour encompasses the most significant sights of Riga. We will drive along the central boulevards of Riga, enjoy the views of the City Canal Parks, the Bastion Hill, the Powder Tower, the Latvian National Theatre, the Fine Arts Museum, the Art Nouveau Buildings of the beginning of the 20th century, the Freedom Monument, University of Latvia, Latvian National Opera House and the Daugava River. During the walking part of the tour explore the ancient Hanseatic City: picturesque streets of the Old Town, the Dome Cathedral, the Church of St. Peter, the old Guild Houses, the Swedish Gate, St. Jacob’s Church, the Parliament House and Old Riga Castle. During the city tour in the cozy specialized cafe you will taste a traditional Latvian herbal liqueur Riga Black balsam made with many different natural ingredients mixed in pure vodka. Continue with the visit of the famous market halls of Riga, opened in 1930. Through different times “Riga Central Market” has kept its place in the heart of Riga, providing variety, personal service, vivid conversations and heartfelt stories, light hearted haggling and bright colors.
Later in the afternoon will take a boat trip along Daugava River and enjoy the view of the historical center and beautiful cityscape. Tonight Latvian cuisine dinner is included. Overnight in Riga (B, D)
Riga - Rundale Palace - Hill of Crosses - Pakruojus Manor - Vilnius
Morning departure from Riga to Vilnius. Before leaving Latvia we will visit the Rundale Palace of the 18th century, a beautiful late baroque ensemble and a splendid example of the early work of famous Italian architect F. B. Rastrelli. Our next detour is at the Hill of Crosses (16 km from Šiauliai), the unforgettable place with thousands of crosses on two small hills. Before reaching Vilnius we will stop at the Pakruojis Manor- the largest manor in Lithuania, consisting of 26 functioning historical buildings. You are welcome to take a walk in the beautiful Manor surroundings, visit the central Manor house, manor farm and stud and af course to taste dishes of Pakruojis regional culinary heritage at the Manor inn “Traktierius”. Arrival in Vilnius and hotel check in. Overnight in Vilnius (B).
Morning city tour of Vilnius, capital of Lithuania for more than 600 years. The tour includes: St. Peter and Paul’s Church, Gediminas Castle, Cathedral Square with St. Stanislaw Cathedral and Bell tower, Bernardine Garden, St. Ann and Bernardines’ Church, Amber gallery-museum, Užupis- one of the oldest districts of Vilnius, mentioned in the historical sources as far back as the 16th century, nowadays the artists’ “republic”, which has its own constitution, national anthem, calendar and map. Visit to the unique Užupis Smithery Museum-Gallery, where you can learn about blacksmith trade, tools and history, view museum collection, watch professional blacksmiths forging iron and learn about essential equipment.
Afternoon trip to Trakai (25 km from Vilnius), the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Visit to the insular castle of the 14th century, erected on a small island in the lake Galve. Trakai is famous for Karaites- the smallest community of ethnic Turkic adherents living in Lithuania from the very 14th century. You will try authentic Karaite cuisine with its most popular dish kybyn. After lunch you will be invited to join the boat ride in the beautiful Galve Lake around the insular castle. Today is the last day of our tour. After breakfast individual transfers to the airport.
