Rail Service
Rail Service in Russia and the CIS is very extensive and fairly reliable, even though facilities and equipment are somewhat antiquated. European Russia is crisscrossed by an extensive rail network that makes trains a viable means of getting to practically anywhere.
Services between Moscow & St Petersburg, and between Russia and the West European capitals tend to be a world class. If you are used to western style service you should opt for at least First Class tickets to avoid unpleasant surprises.
The main western rail gateways to European Russia are Helsinki, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest. There is a daily service from Paris and Amsterdam to Moscow via Berlin and Warsaw. There's also a service from Berlin to Omsk. The Trans-Siberian Railway runs from Moscow to Vladivostok, and you can get a train from there to Beijing. There are limited cruise and ferry services between Russia and Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Turkey and Georgia.
We can reserve and book you tickets from here. We can also advise you on which destination it is better to travel by other modes of transportation.
Bus Service
Russian buses are now completely open to foreigners and when going between small towns are a great way to travel. Intercity Bus Services are very extensive in the region, however very uneven, ranging from Western European modern bus coaches to the third world old dilapidated Soviet Era buses. The same goes for the road and highway system. We can always advise what to expect and what is the best mode of transportation to the given destination.
Car Rental
Driving in Russia/CIS isn't everybody's cup of tea but, if you've got a sense of humor, don't mind some fairly rugged road conditions, a few hassles finding petrol, and getting lost now and then, it's a great way to see the country. Rental cars within Russia/CIS are only available in capitals and big cities such as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, etc. Car theft is a big problem.
In most cities we can arrange a car-for-hire (i.e. a car with a driver). Our drivers are knowledgeable and reliable. They usually speak some English. Prices start at $5.00 an hour, depending on the city. Check with us on service availability in the city that you are going.
River Cruises
River transport remains important and in summer it's possible to travel long distances across Russia on passenger boats. The main passenger services ply between Moscow and St Petersburg, and between Moscow and various points on the Volga and Don, including Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Astrakhan and Rostov-on-Don.
Transfers
When traveling to major cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg, you can use our pre-arranged transfers from the airport to your final destination. Our representative will meet you outside customs area and take you to your destination by a private car. It is a safe and reliable alternative to a taxi cab, which are risky and more expensive. The cost varies between $15-$40, depending on the city. We also offer transfers to railroad stations and other domestic airports for further travel.
Event Tickets
Most major cities offer diverse cultural life and entertainment. While in Moscow or St. Petersburg you can to visit at least one of the major theatres. They are worth seeing not only from an architectural viewpoint, but also offer world-class performances, starring famous singers, actors and ballet dancers. You can visit Moscow's Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater, St. Petersburg's Kirov/Mariinskiy Opera and Ballet, and the State Symphony Orchestras.
We can offer tickets to major events and performances from $20-60 per ticket. If you are not sure what you want to see or to do, then we will be happy to help you choose an event. We will obtain information directly from sources in Moscow and St. Petersburg and offer you several performances and ticket prices.
Most theaters go on tour from June to September outside of Russia. Instead European theater groups come to Moscow and St. Petersburg, and this might also be an interesting venue to explore.
Translation Services
For those who do not speak Russian or local languages, we offer our translation/interpreter services. Our interpreters & private guides will save you money when you need to hire a cab, buy a train ticket, visit a theater, or do just about anything else in Russia. Almost any situation will cost you less if you have a native speaking interpreter by your side. So, it's fair to say that the fee charged by the interpreter will easily pay for itself in form of extra savings.
We can also help you translate letters or other correspondence at our office at no extra charge. If you need to call Russia and require an interpreter, we would be happy to assist you with your conference call.
Adoption Travel Services
We provide full range of travel services and work with various Children Adoption Agencies, like ECAS (European Children Adoption Services) www.ecasus.org, on helping prospective parents with all of their travel and visa arrangements in Russia and the CIS.
